Appledore is set in glorious walking country in the heart
of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. There
are plenty of walks from the house of varying difficulty
and many others in Rosedale and neighbouring dales or moorland. There are wonderful streams and rivers and delightful villages with great pubs and restaurants.
The beautiful North Yorkshire coast is only about half
an hour away with lovely sandy beaches or the busy seaside towns of Whitby, Scarborough or Robin
Hoods Bay. Close by is the North York Moors Steam Railway, Goathland, Castle Howard, Rievaulx Abbey
and the bustling market towns of Kirkbymoorside
and Helmsley.
There is a good swimming pool in nearby Pickering, a
small golf course just down the lane, plenty of horse
riding locally and Flamingoland theme park is reached
in about half and hour. There are good shops in both Pickering and Kirkbymoorsde although Rosedale Abbey
has most basic provisions including a two shops with cafes and three pubs/hotels all serving food.
